Hello,
My
name is Ray Millar and I have been researching my Genealogical
background for a
relatively short time, starting in 2004 when I retired.
My
roots originate from the Orkney
Islands,
the bit
that is often shown as an inset at the top of the UK
weather
chart.
My Family tree includes
my wife
Barbara's line which extends back to before 1500, almost to the reign
of Richard the Third and to before Henry the Eighth. Barbara's
ancestors originate mainly from Essex, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and the
London area in England.
My
own line traces Orkney ancestors to the mid 1700's as many records only
started
around then, and then migrates to distant shores when many Orcadians
took the
decision to emigrate to Australia,Canada
New
Zealand and the like.
To
date there are almost 40,000 names on my Family Tree,
and uniquely, all the names on this
family tree are linked together. The website will display somewhat
fewer than
that to protect the privacy of living individuals.
The
website does however,
include over 95% of the families from the Orkney island
of Eday
that provide the
backbone of the Family Tree, hence the name of this site,
“From Eday to There”
It
will also
include details of births and marriages from Old Parish Records and
copies of
BMD register certificates, "Reproduced
with
the kind permission of the Registrar General for Scotland".
All
the
Eday and Pharay Census Records will be displayed and will include a
spouse’s
maiden name wherever possible.
Images
of all the headstones and their inscriptions from both the New Kirkyard
and
from St Mary's Old Kirkyard, Eday can also be viewed on this website.
The
website will also display a list of all the Church Ministers that
carried out
baptisms on Eday between 1789 and 1855, the Registrars for
Eday from 1855
onward, and a list of the homes and Rentals paid by the
tenants of Eday.
