Adelaide Saturday 3rd July 1897; Willowie, June 30. Another old colonist, Mr. James Shearer, of Willowie, died on June 25. The deceased arrived in the colony from Scotland in the ship Sibella, in 1852, and lived at Finniss Point and Tarlee for a number of years. He went to Victoria in 1870, but returned a few years later, and had resided at Willowie for the last 19 years. His wife died nearly two years ago, and since then he has been living with his son, Mr. Robert Shearer. He leaves five sons, two daughters, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The deceased took little interest in public affairs apart from religious matters, though he was a member in the Gilbert District.
The Advertiser Adelaide Wednesday 30 June 1897, SHEARER.-On the 25th June, at his son's (Robert Shearer) residence, of senile decay, James Shearer, aged 86 years. Arrived in the ship Sybella, 1852. Melbourne and Orkney papers please copy.
