- The Central Queensland Herald Rockhampton Thursday 22nd June 1944, DEATH OF MR GAVIN WALD.
Many Rockhampton and district friends will learn with regret of the death of Mr Gavin Wald, former manager of the Commonwealth Bank at Rockhampton He passed away on Sunday night at his home in Hobart. The late Mr Wald originally came from Adelaide, where he transferred from one of the local banks to join the Commonwealth Bank. Coming to Queensland, he was successively manager of the Commonwealth Bank at Toowoomba, Maryborough and Rockhampton. He left Rockhampton to become assistant general manager in Brisbane and from there was transferred to Hobart. Last January, Mr Wald underwent a serious operation, but he resumed duty after Easter in comparatively good health. The immediate cause of death was a heart atttack. During his residence in Rockhampton, Mr Wald was a highly esteemed citizen who identified
himself with all activities designed for the progress of the city. He originated the proposal of a road to Port Alma, which has since commanded considerable support. He was a past president of the Rotary Club and for many years took an active part to the Rockhampton Golf Club. He is survived by his widow and two daughters.
The Advertiser Adelaide Friday 28th July 1944; WALD.- The friends of Mrs. Clara M. Wald, and the late James Irvine Wald of 45 Watson Ave., Rose Park, are respectfully informed that the cremated remains of their late elder son Gavin Flett late of Hobart, Tasmania, were privately interred in the North Road Cemetery on Thursday last, 27th instant. The Rev. Harold Giles officiated.
