- The notes etc below need further research.
I have exhausted all possibilities trying to prove this below. I've looked at all the usual on line sources, nothing. I've tried searching the ships list, nothing. I can't even find a J.W.M. Gibson other than lots of Solicitor firms! His wife appears to be Orcadian or has relatives there. The comment; "Mrs. Gibson's sister is an ex-president of that branch" CWA seems to be Country Women's Association although I cannot find an Orkney branch (perhaps W.I.) (Women's Institute).
Gippsland Times (Vic. : 1861 - 1954) Monday 25 April 1938 Mr. J. W. M. Gibson, of Swift's Creek, accompanied by his wife and family, will leave to-morrow by the R.M.S. Orford on an. extended visit to England, Scotland and the Orkney Islands. They expect to be away for about six months.
Mrs. J. Gibson, of Swift's Creek, who is to leave with her family on an extended visit to her home in Scotland, was bade bon voyage by the president of the Swift's Creek branch of the C.W.A. on behalf of members, who hope to form a link with a branch of about 150 members at Holm, Orkney Islands. Mrs. Gibson's sister is an ex-president of that branch. Final arrangements in regard to forming the link will be made by Mrs. Gibson on her visit to the branch. She is bearing a silver spoon, with the C.W.A. badge as a token of goodwill from the Swift's Creek branch. Mrs. Gibson briefly responded to the good wishes extended. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames T. Johnston, Grinter and Forsyth.
Weekly Times (Melbourne, Vic. : 1869 - 1954) Saturday 30 July 1938 SWIFTS CREEK received a letter from the oversea link on the Orkney Island. A special welcome was extended to a new member who is the first Younger Set member to join the parent branch.
