1841 Palace Birsay age 70 Schoolmaster, wife Margaret 65, daughters Catherine 40, Ann 35, Margaret 45.
1851 Palace Birsay age 83 Retired Schoolmaster, wife Margaret 76, daughters Catherine 52 infirm, Anne 43 Strawplaitter, granddaughter Helen Gaudie 7. Daughter Margaret is also at the Palace age 56 Strawplaitter.
1799 Birsay Kirk Sessions;
The Moderator represented that in consequence of the small number of Elders in this to make up their parish, there is an absolute necessity for some more being ordained to that office, and number of Elders the Session after considering the same unanimously named the following persons vizt
Geo: Louttit schoolmaster & Session Clerk at the Palace, Willm Mowat in Quaquoy, John Spence house of Folster, Andrew Flett in Veln in Sabiston, John Mowat schoolmaster in Greeny, Magnus Spence in Dirkadale and George Spence in Curcum and appointed the Moderator to converse with the above persons in private in order to be fully satisfied
both as to their qualifications for, and willingness to accept said office of Elders, and to report to next meeting of Session.
Elders ordained Agreeable to the edict served the 9th currt the Session now proceeded to the ordination of the following persons (no objections having been offered against them) vizt
John Mowat schoolmaster in Greeny, William Mowat in Quaquoy, George Spence in Curcum, Andrew Flett in Veln in Sabiston, John Spence in North house of Folster and Geo: Louttit schoolmaster at the Palace; When after prayer they received the right hand of fellowship, and their names were appointed to be entered in the roll of Elders of this charge.
1800 Birsay Kirk Session;
A letter was read from Geo: Louttit resigning the offices of Elder and Session Clerk. The Session received said resignation and appointed John Mowat Elder to officiate in his stead. Said Geo: Louttit acknowledged himself guilty of antinuptial fornication, was rebuked & absolved. In consideration of his straitened circumstances, his pawn was returned which fully pays him his fee as Clerk to this term.
1853 Birsay Kirk Session
The resignation of the office of Session Clerk by Mr George Loutit was intimated by the Moderator. Mr George Robson, parish schoolmaster was there upon selected to fill the vacant office. The Session unanimously express their sympathy for Mr Loutit in his state of feebleness, and their sense of his faithful management during the long period of time that he has held office, and their earnest desire and prayer for comfort and support from above to him during the remainder of his days. They instructed the Clerk to communicate to Mr Loutit the substance of this minute.
