William Stanger entered the Company’s service in 1850 and sailed to York Factory that same year aboard the ship Prince of Wales. He arrived at
York Factory on August 12. Throughout his five years with the Company, William Stanger served as a Labourer in the English River District (in the province of Saskatchewan), Upon the termination of his contract in 1855 he returned to England once again aboard the Prince of Wales.
